Based in the city of Jackson, The Mississippi Chorus reaches across central Mississippi and beyond to deliver excellence in choral music. We are a community united by a love for singing a full repertoire of choral masterworks for our audiences!
Who can become a member of The Chorus?
The Chorus is open to everyone without an audition. Informal hearings are held each season for placement within the Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass sections.
Basic music knowledge is needed; however, a voice that blends with others, a good music memory, and a love of choral music is required!
Membership is open to singers age 18 and up.
Previous choral experience is helpful but not required.
We welcome non-singing members who volunteer and support our organization’s many technical and administrative tasks!
How do I join?
Joining The Chorus is as easy as filling out a registration form and coming to a rehearsal. It’s THAT simple. You will be met by a section representative who will introduce you to fellow choristers – we want you to feel at home!
The Master Chorale
The Master Chorale is an auditioned chamber choir group comprised of current members of The Mississippi Chorus, ages 20 and up. They enjoy additional performance opportunities throughout the season. They rehearse at 6 p.m. directly prior to Grande Chorus rehearsal. If you are passionate about choral music and looking for a challenging, rewarding choral experience, we would love to hear your audition! E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com for audition scheduling and/or inquiries.
When and where do we rehearse?
Monday, 7–9 p.m. and as announced, held in the Parish Hall at St. Columb’s Episcopal Church, 550 Sunnybrook Road, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
Rehearsals begin promptly at 7 p.m.
Dress rehearsals are held the night before the performance at the performance site unless otherwise announced.
Do I have to come to every rehearsal?
You are missed when you are absent!
Faithful rehearsal attendance is the only way The Mississippi Chorus can succeed. While 100% attendance is the goal, 75% attendance is required in order to participate in the performances. If for some reason you need to ask for an exception to be made, please contact the Artistic Director.
Attendance at all dress rehearsals is required.
What will I have to wear?
Women: Black concert top (cost: approximately $40), long black skirt or black pants, and closed-toe black shoes.
Men: Black tuxedo (no tails), white wing-tip collar shirt, black tie, black cummerbund, black socks, and black dress shoes.
(Note: BLACK studs in button holes of the visible portion of shirt and matching (with studs) BLACK or gold cuff links.)
